Janet Ileen Hollywood

May 22, 1930 — July 12, 2018

Janet I. Carpenter (Hollywood) died peacefully in her sleep on July 12, 2018 after a long illness.

She leaves behind her son Jay Stone (Judy), Jeanne Stone Ward (Gary), step children Wayne Carpenter and Brian Carpenter; grandchildren Caroline Stone, Christopher Ward, and Michael Ward; and step grandchildren, Jenny and Lisa Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her last husband, Edward Hollywood; second husband, William Carpenter; first husband, Jesse Stone; and her sister, Peggy Stone.

Born on May 22, 1930 in Hawthorne to Richard and Leahmay Materna, Janet was a true California native. Janet was the oldest of three sisters, Peggy (Smith) Stone, and Charlotte Reichert.

Raised in El Segundo, California, she attended and graduated El Segundo High School, where she studied Art. She worked as a painter at Metlox Pottery “slopping paint” as she would say, on plates. Her first marriage to Jesse Stone soon followed. She moved to Manhattan Beach and raised two children, Jay and Jeanne, while being active in the Meadows Elementary PTA as President, and club work. In 1968, she moved to Torrance California and married William Louis Carpenter, her soul mate, unfortunately he died suddenly on their 8th wedding anniversary. Ten years later she met Edward Hollywood, moved to Pacific Palisades, and they married on her birthday and were together for 26 years.

Starting her working career later in life, Janet worked at the Boston Stores as women’s wear manager. She then went to work for Lane Bryant as Department Manager, in Los Angeles and as Assistant Manager, then Manager of the Del Amo store. Her store in Del Amo was the number one store in the region.

She loved roses, gardening and her two mini-schnauzer’s “Happy” and “Joy.”
