Jan Patla, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and brother-in-law, passed away on August 19, 2024, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.
Born on March 30, 1934, in Czermna, Poland, Jan grew up on a working farm and received a trade school education. Upon completing his studies, he met and married the love of his life, Diana Kaszczyszyn. Together, they were blessed with two sons: Richard, born in 1959, and Roman, born in 1961.
On December 3, 1963, the family of four immigrated to the United States and settled in Inglewood, California. They eventually relocated to Torrance, where Jan spent the remainder of his years working as an aerospace machinist.
Jan's passion for his work led him to continue his career well into his later years, working until early 2024. During his retirement, he and Diana enjoyed numerous cruises with their friends Heddy and Max. Jan also cherished time spent with his brother-in-law, Robert, taking drives to the desert, visiting the Redondo Beach Pier, and making occasional trips to casinos. Every Sunday, Jan faithfully attended mass at Nativity Catholic Church. An avid LA Galaxy soccer fan, he regularly attended games at the stadium in Carson. Above all, Jan treasured moments with his five granddaughters and was grateful to meet his great-grandson just months before his passing.
Jan is survived by his wife, Diana Patla; his sons Richard Patla (Stephanie) and Roman Patla (Terri); his grandchildren, Samantha Patla Yin (Tommy), Rachel Patla, Caitlin Patla, Kristin Patla, and Kelli Patla; his great-grandchild, Teddy Yin; his six siblings; his brother-in-law, Robert Kayson (Krystyna); his sister-in-law, Barbara Ananewycz (Bob); and many nieces and nephews.
Jan led a life marked by his dedication to family, church, and career, as well as his zest for life. With a heart full of kindness, he was known for his gentle nature and playful spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Private services to honor Jan Patla will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
