Born March 1, 1936 to William "Bill" and Bernice Ishii in Long Beach California. Passed away July, 01, 2012, of complications from non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. A veteran of the US Army. Spent the last 36 years as a resident of Rancho Palos Verdes. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara, loving son, David, brother, Robert, and many in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces in Arizona, Hawaii, and California.
Jan spent his whole career of 39 years with the California Board of Equalization starting as an Auditor in the Inglewood District Board office in 1963 and rising to District Principal Auditor. In 1982 he took the position of Santa Ana District Administrator where he served until his official retirement in 1999. He served the Board as a consultant from 1999 to 2001 working on various special projects as the lead in charge.
Jan was an avid deep sea fisherman where he learned his love for the sea from his father, a charter boat captain in Long Beach, and later pursued the big tuna and yellowtail on sportfishing boats out of San Diego fishing Mexican waters off the Baja Coast. He truly enjoyed being on a fishing boat on the hunt for big tuna.
At his request, no funeral services will be held. A memorial to celebrate his life is planned in the near future.
