James S. "Smitty" Smith passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family from congestive heart failure on March 16, 2017 at the age of 89. He was born on November 19, 1927 in Wisconsin and was a resident of San Pedro, California. He served proudly in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. After the war he was an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department for 34 years. 16 of which he worked as a firearms instructor for the department's Pistol Range in San Pedro. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 63 years, Grace (Pichardo) Smith. Together they built a wonderful life, blessed all those that knew them and had 26 years of happy times at Lake Havasu City waterskiing and playing golf. "Smitty" will be missed by his sons, Peter B. Smith, Michael J. Smith, and his beloved grandchildren, Meghan (Clay) R. Kennedy, Marisa (James) R. Wellman, Madeline R. Smith and brother, Robert (Conchita) H. Smith. A funeral service will be held at 9am on Friday, March 24th at Green Hills Memorial Chapel.
