James Sheffield

James Sheffield passed away on November 3, 2012 in Harbor City, CA. He was born to James Buck and Margie Meredith Sheffield on October 22, 1923 in Enterprise, Alabama. He lived in San Pedro for fifty-six years. He served 6 years on active duty with the US Navy and participated in Naval operations, mostly in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the US Navy, he worked as a civil service employee in Hawaii and California, retiring with 30 years civil service. His last place of employment was the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. James is survived by Evelyn Medeiros Sheffield, his wife of 68 years. They were married on February 12, 1944 in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Daniel Buck (Jackie) Kraft, Duane Robert (Brandi) Kraft, Nickie Williams, James Marciel Sheffield, thirteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. James was pre-deceased by his two children, Barbara Jean Sheffield Kraft, James Robert Sheffield; his grandson Donald Edward Kraft III; his sister Loraine Wilson Goodson and his brother Comer Sheffield. Viewing will be on November 7, 2012 from 6 to 8pm at Green Hills Mortuary. The funeral mass will be held on November 8, 2012, 10am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro.
