James Pfannenstiel

May 29, 1936 — September 4, 2016

James (Jim) Pfannenstiel was born on May 29th, 1936 in Collyer, Kansas. He was the son of Fidelis J. Pfannenstiel and Margaret Pfannenstiel (Leiker). He had 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

Jim spent his youth in a rural farming community. After Jim graduated from high school he took several classes at the local college in Hays, Kansas. Realizing that opportunities in Kansas were limited, Jim decided to head to California. Jim found employment with United Airlines which lasted over 41 years. He was a dedicated and responsible employee.

In the early sixties James would have a dinner date that would change his life forever. It was at this meal that he would meet someone who "knocked his socks off." He met Karen Stinson, a beautiful and gentle young lady, who became the love of his life. In June of 1965 they vowed "to love and cherish each other" at their wedding. Together they built and shared 51 happy and memorable years together. To their joy, in 1968 they expanded their family unit with the birth of their son, Craig James Pfannenstiel.

Jim attributed his faith commitment for the Lord to Karen. He said "she brought him to the Lord." She was his "best friend", his confidant and his love. James, ever mindful of his growing up years, focused on long range provisions for his family. He was a generous man to those in need. He understood from his childhood, that a daily routine of having limited or having to go without your daily needs can affect you for the rest of your life.

Jim discovered another "love". . One that he enjoyed throughout his life...golf. It was through this time "spent on the green" that he met and shared lasting friendships with many other gentlemen through the years. It was during this time spent on the golf course that he would recharge his batteries.

Jim is survived by his older sister Lily; his son Craig (Beverly); two grandchildren, Cynthia Meyer and Shawn Carroll; by two great-grandchildren, Amanda Meyer and Tim Meyer and by numerous nieces and nephews mainly throughout Colorado and Kansas.

His memorial service is at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1st, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Redondo Beach. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church.
