Jim was born on June 3, 1931 at Ohio State University Hospital to Dr. James and Mary Montgomery Foley and passed away peacefully on March 8, 2014. He was an only child and was raised in Bexley, Ohio. He graduated from Bexley High School and entered Ohio State University in the College of Pre-Medicine. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Jim's love of flying started as a boy when he worked at Lane Aviation where he learned to fly, and joined the Ohio National Guard. When the Guard was activated to duty in the Korean War, Jim went to pilot training as an aviation cadet and received his pilot wings and regular commission in the U.S. Air Force at Laredo, Texas Class of 52B. He spent 21 years as a jet pilot flying the T-33, F-86D, F-105, F-4 and F-15. He was stationed at Danang during the Vietnam War and flew 100 combat missions. He retired from the Air Force in 1972 and went to work for Northrop and received his MBA. He worked for Northrop for 21 years marketing the FA-18 Hornet in Europe. After retiring from Northrop Grumman, he worked for Boeing for 3 years until he finally retired to play golf. He was a member of Rolling Hills Covenant Church, the Order of Daedalians, Palos Verdes Golf Club and Desert Falls County Club in Palm Desert and his Fiji Group. Jim married Dolores Click, also from Bexley, Ohio and together they went to Laredo, Texas. Upon retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Palos Verdes Estates where they have lived for 39 years. They have been married for 62 years and have 4 daughters: Debbie (Robert) Rambo, Pamela (John) Hooks, Molly (Bob) Morris and Betsy (Chris) Foley; they have 7 grandchildren: James (Katie) Hooks, Rob Hooks, Alex Hooks, Bryan (Laura) Morris, Kelly Morris, Jack Foley and Liam Foley. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and loved all of life. He also has a brother-in-law, Rod Wilcox, 3 nieces, and one nephew. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, daughters and grandchildren. As a family, we want to thank our caregivers Milton, Sherlett, Cesi, and RN Sheryl Rhodes of Hospice Trinity Care Services. Jim left Ohio but was always a Buckeye at heart, so in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Disease Fund at Ohio State: The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, P.O Box 183112, Columbus Ohio 43218-3112.
