James Stewart Hill at the age of 96, of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away the morning of Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Born February 26, 1929, in Long Beach, California, he was the son of the late James Ewing Hill and Linnie Reinhardt Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Patricia Hill; two daughters Janice Patricia Hill of Palos Verdes Estates; Virginia Lynn Nichols and her husband Andrew Sturgis Nichols of Fountain Valley; daughter in law Elizabeth Ann Hill of West Point, Mississippi; and four grandsons, Zachary, Bryce, James, and Patrick. James was preceded in death by his son Richard James Hill.
James graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked as an electrical engineer in aerospace until he retired. He was sent to Australia to train them in the repair of fighter jets purchased from the US military.
James had many interests such as building radios some starting with a crystal set, collecting antique radios, working with wood, fixing electronics, and operating his HAM and MARS radios. He was a HAM operator at the age of 17, his call W6IVW. He would contact other HAM’s all over the world and helped families in the United States that needed to contact their service men in war areas overseas. Jim and Pat enjoyed square dancing for many years, dancing advanced level most of the time. They enjoyed camping in their travel trailer and have traveled across much of the United States and Canada. They drove to Alaska four times, the last one was a trip lasting six months.
A Memorial will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Green Hills Memorial Park, his final resting place.
