It is with great sadness to announce that Jim left our world on June 25, 2022 at the age of 85. He entered this world on July 4th 1936 with red hair and tipping the scales at 11 lb. 2 oz. and 23-½” long. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and June Higgs and sister Sharon. He was raised in San Pedro and attended 7th St. School, Dana Junior High and San Pedro High. He met his wife, Carol, through mutual friends, and just celebrated their 61 years together. Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and enjoyed his time in the service. Because of his mechanical abilities, he became part of the maint. crew of a Cargo plane and flew where ever they were needed. Jim had a passion for cars in his early teens which carried through till his death. In 2000 they moved to the south to visit various Civil War sites. He was very interested in history and particularly the Civil War. We moved to Hattiesburg, MS, and from there we did most of our traveling because it was pretty central to all the sites we wanted to see. We loved our time in Hattiesburg and met a new set of friends. One of the first things Jim did was acquire a 1989 Lincoln Mark VII (on e-Bay). Carol thought he was crazy but he did it; then joined the Lincoln car club (LCOC) and met another set of friends. Jim and Carol went on many adventures in that Lincoln over the years, from New Jersey to Duluth, MN, from Nashville to Scottsdale. We would take mini-vacations in conjunction with wherever a Lincoln meet was held. It was fun times for sure. Jim is survived by his wife Carol, their 2 sons and wives, Mark (Shannon), Steven (Debbie), Carol’s brother Bob Walz and various cousins. He will be missed terribly by his family; one word describes Jim, "Gentleman". A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Green Hills Chapel followed by interment. There will be a luncheon at The Estate, 2020 S. Western Ave., San Pedro afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity, or to Beacon House, 1003 S. Beacon St., San Pedro, CA 90731. You can make a donation in Jim’s name at:
