James Barra

February 25, 1941 — October 4, 2021

James “Jimmy Mack“ Nicholas Barra was a loving father, grandpa, brother and friend who passed away on October 4, 2021 in Torrance, California. He has left his legacy behind to his son, Andrew Barra and his granddaughter, Lilee Barra.
His health battles in recent years showed everyone his determination, strength, courage and love for life. Despite his pain, he fought through his challenges with tenacity and showed anyone who knew him the meaning of never giving up.
The simple things brought him so much joy. He loved watching sports and as a die hard Dodger and Raider fan, if either team was winning, everyone in the house knew because he cheered for them loudly as if he was right there in the stands.
His love for music was undeniable! Daily, he listened to music and although jazz, blues and soul were favorites of his, it wasn’t a surprise if you heard Tupac blaring from his room. He appreciated all genres!
He also had the biggest sweet tooth! Often times he would request to skip dinner and go straight for dessert. His favorite meal was pancakes.,
James was a longshoreman for ILWU for many years and gave his family the opportunity to follow in his footsteps. He took so much pride in being a union brother and inspired his son to do the same.
James is survived by his son, Andrew; his granddaughter, Lilee; his sister, Linda; and many family and friends who will miss him always.
A funeral service is scheduled on 10/22/21@ 2pm. It will be held at Green HIlls in San Pedro, CA.
