Jahangir Ghaderi-Tafreshi

May 31, 1931 — July 16, 2014

General Jahangir Ghaderi-Tafreshi was born in Tehran, Iran on May 31, 1931 and passed away on July 16, 2014 at the age of 83. Originally from Iran, Jahangir resided in San Pedro, CA for the past 30 years.

General Ghaderi began his military career at the age of 13 when he attended a military high school. He entered the army university at the age of 19 and graduated at the age of 22 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. General Ghaderi served in the Imperial Guard and attended many US training courses and also attended Ranger school at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was the first officer from the Middle East to pass this difficult training program. He worked with much dedication and leadership while serving in the military. Just one of his many achievements included receiving the "Bundesverdienstkreuz", the highest military and civilian honor, from the German President. Jahangir was promoted through the ranks and by the end of his military career he was a highly decorated General.

Jahangir was a dedicated and steadfast father, husband, brother and friend. For over 50 years he was married to Manijeh Ghaderi who preceded him in death on April 9, 2014. He was a loving father to Nader (Vanessa) of San Pedro, CA; Ahmad (Susan) of Westlake Village, CA; Bahram (Patrice) of St. Charles, IL and one daughter Kathy of San Pedro, CA. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren; Ashley, Brendon, Austin, Kailey, Gabrielle, Maya, Siena, Drake and Soleil Ghaderi and one great-granddaughter, Madison. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister Farangis and his brother Mehdi.

Jahangir was a man of great courage and a man of great service to his country and his family. He was there at any time to help someone in need and other's needs were always put before his own. His answer to the question, "Do you need anything?" was "Just your health and happiness is all I need." He received abundant satisfaction in watching his children achieve happiness and success in their lives. For the last 13 years he was a warrior in the face of Alzheimer's disease and never complained as he was slowly robbed of his memory and abilities.

A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor his life will be held Saturday July 26, 2014. Visitation and memorial service will begin at 1:00pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes. Interment will follow immediately in Green Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. A memorial page for Manijeh and Jahangir Ghaderi can be found at http://act.alz.org/goto/ghaderi
