Jack Randolph Reider

Jack Randolph Reider, 82, of Rancho Palos Verdes, died November 2, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Betty Sevy Reider, three children: Katrina Anderson of San Ramon, CA, Lindsey Reider of Syracuse, NY, Gretchen Pearson (Dan) of San Ramon, two step-sons: Steven Sevy (Janine) and Scott Sevy (Dionne), plus seven grandchildren: Brooks and Calvin Anderson, Charlie and Chloe Reider, and Kelly, Lucille, and Joseph Pearson, and four step-grandchildren: Johnathan, Clara, Nathan, and Daniel Sevy. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Chloe Reider in 1986.

Jack was "Beaver" born and bred in Baker, Oregon March 2, 1934. He attended Oregon State University, where he served as President of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and graduated with a B.S. in chemical engineering. After college, he was a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army. Jack moved to California where he met and married Chloe Anne Dean. He and Chloe moved to Southern California where Jack worked as an aerospace engineer at McDonnell Douglas for 38 years. Throughout his career, he held several management positions including heading Space Launch Vehicle Propulsion Engineering. After Jack retired, he was co-founder of the Delta Alumni Club which consists of retirees who worked on the long-lived Delta Space Launch Vehicle Program. It grew from a few to currently over 200 members.

While raising three children in Rancho Palos Verdes, Jack was a Little League and softball coach. He had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed learning new things. He took up many hobbies to proficiency. Jack was a prolific worker; always having a project going at home and at work. He enjoyed travel, often going to his cabin in Eastern Oregon.

Jack married Betty Sevy in 1998. Throughout their marriage, he served on the Peninsula Symphony board, the Mira Verde home-owners board, San Pedro Elks Club, and the Red Barons club. He and Betty were members of Rolling Hills Covenant Church, and were very active at the Norris Theatre in Rolling Hills Estates where they were members of Bravo!, Chorus Liners, and Cabaret Jazz. Jack was an avid tennis player and a regular at Peninsula Seniors for ping pong. Jack will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Byron MacDonald at Rolling Hills Covenant Church, North Campus Chapel, 2221 Palos Verdes Drive North, Rolling Hills Estates on Tuesday, November 15, at 1:30 pm.
