Jack Norman McCormick, 86, of Sun City West, AZ passed away on March 28, 2024 at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, AZ. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Darlene Rose McCormick. Jack was born August 29, 1937 in Denver, Colorado, the son of George Ernest McCormick and Ethel Mae Dollarhide and was the youngest of 5 siblings: Darlene (deceased), George (deceased), Phyllis and Shirley. He will be greatly missed by his 2 sons, Peter (Connie) McCormick and Michael McCormick, his grandchildren Jaclyn (Thomas) McCormick, Jennifer McCormick and Michelle (Chris) Rowe and his great grandchildren Dylan, Harper, Sky’ir, and Gracie.
Jack’s family moved from Denver to California after World War II. Jack met the love of his life, Darlene Homick at school in San Pedro, CA when he was in 8th grade and they were married right after high school on January 26, 1957. Shortly after that, they began to raise their family. Jack and his sons enjoyed fishing, motorcycle events and rebuilding classic cars together. Jack had many jobs in his early years and then made his career as a manufacturer’s sales representative for Dorman Products. He became their West Coast Sales Manager for Hawaii and all the western US which moved him to Scottsdale, AZ in 1993.
Jack’s son Michael and his 3 young granddaughters also moved to Scottsdale a couple years later and Jack loved being so close to them. He liked to tell his grandchildren stories. One was when he was young, he was out boating with the Sea Scouts in California with a friend when he saw a mother and a girl who looked to be about six or seven and a baby in a small boat that had capsized. His friend and he quickly went to the boat looking everywhere but could not find the mother or the girl, both of whom drowned, but Jack was able to save the little baby. They radioed the Coast Guard who came to take the baby away. It was very sad, however, Jack went home knowing he had saved the little baby’s life.
In 2007 Jack and Darlene retired in Sun City West, AZ where they enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling and many other activities including spending time with their neighbors and good friends. They also enjoyed visiting their son Peter and his wife Connie in Hawaii whenever they could.
Jack will be buried at Green Hills Cemetery on April 9, 2024 at 12:30pm.
