In what can only be described as an enormous loss to family, friends, the community and the world, Jack Irving Esensten passed away on May 21, 2023 at the age of 95, surrounded by love and at peace.
Jack was born and raised in Minnesota, the youngest in a family of five brothers who were extraordinarily close and who collectively nurtured a large and joyous family. As his brothers unfortunately passed before him, Jack was honored to take on the role of family patriarch, attending every family event and nurturing special relationships with extended family far and wide.
Jack lived an energetic and rich life, from a law practice that spanned more than 70 years, countless USC football games, Las Vegas weekends as well as his love of theatre and music, wine and single malt scotch. He was a fixture at Clippers basketball games from his seat on the aisle where he could often be seen on tv dozing in the third quarter while simultaneously coaching from his fourth row vantage point. He was an active member of the community, decades ahead of his time in his outspoken support of women’s rights and equality.
Everyone who came into Jack’s like was enveloped in his love and generosity, becoming like family to him. Jack is survived by so many loved ones, including his companion Ilene, his daughters Teri, Randi and Deena, sons in law Jerry and Mike, granddaughters Morgan, Stella and Cameron, as well as a huge loving network of nieces, nephews and friends who will all miss him and feel his love every day.
