Ivan Lucin, age 89, passed away on December 22, 2023. Ivan was born on September 15, 1934 on the island of Veil Drvenik in Croatia. He was the son of Bob and Jerka Lucin. Ivan left his homeland and immigrated to San Pedro in February of 1960. He followed in his father’s footsteps as a fisherman and then worked as a heavy rigger at Todd Shipyard until he retired in 1989.
Ivan enjoyed cooking and storytelling, as the two went hand in hand during any family gathering, big or small. He was an exceptional cook and his specialties included bakalar, octopus salad, sauerkraut, and chicken risotto. He loved his family and speaking time with them both at home and at their family vacation home in Lake Havasu. Ivan also took pride in growing grapes, figs, and beautiful orchids in his backyard. In addition, he enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, and Rams.
Ivan is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Maria, as well as his parents. He will be greatly missed by his three children, Helen (Zivko) Gojanovic, Bob (Rosemary) Lucin, and Andrew (Cathy) Lucin, four grandchildren, Marie, Joey (Alexis), Nicole (Matt), and Bobby (Michelle) and two great-grandchildren, Karlo and Giovanni. He is also survived by his nieces Maria (Milan) Domacin, Danira Bojic, Julijana Druzic, Sister-in-Law Nikolina Bojic, Brother-in-Law Nikola Pensa, and many family members here and in Croatia.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10th from 4:30pm-8:00pm at Green Hills Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 11th at 10:30am at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 870 W. 7th Street, San Pedro, CA 90731 followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
