Irene I. Van Rees

Irene Ivonne van Rees, the daughter of Frans and Corrie Guttenberg, passed away on November 23, 2013 at 7:23 in the evening at the age of 75. She was born on December 28, 1937 in Bandung, Indonesia and had been a long time resident of Carson, California. She's a beloved sister, wife, mother and oma. She is survived by husband Kees Philip and her four children Richard Frances van Rees, Jacqueline Amalia Peterson, Monique Mary van Rees-Kimbrough and Peter William van Rees; grandchildren Richele Napuaonalani and Jacob Keeanu van Rees, Brigitte Noelle, Elijah Philip and Richard John Peterson III (deceased), Shantee Ivonne, Christopher William, Julian Philip, Cody William and Alexander Robert Kimbrough, Brandon Edward and Anthony Michael van Rees; great-grandchildren Asaiah Keilani van Rees, Amariae Amelia Kimbrough-Williams, Chloe Monet and Jeremiah Ryan Kimbrough and Irene's brother Edsel Guttenberg.

In 1960, Irene immigrated to America and married in 1961. They welcomed their first child in 1963, first grandchild in 1985 and great-grandchild in 2012. Irene was a faithful wife, mother, grand-mother, and neighborhood babysitter. She loved her family and dedicated her life to caring for them. She was known for her wonderful cooking of Dutch-Indonesian food, knitting, sewing clothes for the family and the Barbie dolls. She especially enjoyed gardening and growing her own vegetables. The viewing will be held on Friday, November 29th from 3 - 8 p.m. and services at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30th both at Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial Park.
