Ignacio "Jun" Mejorada Fanega, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home, in Carson, California on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Jun was born on April 16, 1933, in Murcia, Philippines, and moved to Miag-ao when his mother passed away in 1941.
Jun was preceded in death by his parents (Ignacio and Adelaida Fanega, Sr.) and his brothers Virgilio Fanega and Antonio Fanega, sister Preciousia Mansuetto, and son-in-law Steve Kallenbach. He is survived by his beloved wife Erlinda “Linda” Gidaya Fanega, along with sons Jose Edsel, Ignacio “Butch”, III (wife Mini, son Matthew and daughter Ellie), Emil Jaypee (wife Beatrice), and daughters Enrieta "Marnie" Kallenbach (late husband Steve, son Cody) and Eden Hight (husband Brian, sons Joshua and Justin). He is also survived by his siblings Arthur, Jose, Fernando, Thomas, and Fernanda Reyes.
Jun completed his certification in Radio Technician in Ilo-Ilo, Philippines, and ventured to Manila as a radio technician for a record company. After five years in Manila, he moved to Bacolod City to work for a local radio company for a few years until he was hired by Del Rosario Brothers, Inc (DRB Inc, a national appliance and electronics company) and later was sent to Cebu to specialize in refrigeration and air conditioning.
He met his wife, Linda, in Bacolod City and married on May 12, 1962; they have five children.
Jun opened his own business - Fanega Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Shop - in 1966. As the proud owner, he operated the first local appliance repair shop specializing in refrigeration and air conditioning in Bacolod City for 15 years. He moved to the US in 1984 and his family joined him the following years. He worked with small businesses as a technician, and in 1998 worked at Sears Roebuck & Company Service Division in Torrance for 12 years until he retired in 2001.
Jun held many titles in his life: technician, entrepreneur, Lions Club President, and Eucharistic Minister, to name a few. However. his favorite roles were being a father and a grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children, as well as his grandchildren. He was always there for them, whether he was driving to or picking up from school or sports practice or attending school programs, sports events and other activities. He adored his wife, Linda; always by her side and liked to do things with her with love and dedication.
Jun enjoyed working with his hands, fixing broken parts, learning new things, and making things better. He loved reading the daily newspaper, watching the evening news and attending church every Sunday. Everyone who knew Jun knew what a gentle soul he was. He will be missed forever, but never forgotten.
The funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, 27501 S Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Reception following the services. Family and friends are welcome.
