Ida Kate (Cooper) Johnson-Camp was born in Detroit, Michigan, July 28, 1921. The first child of Edith Aileen (Goodson) and Heman M. Cooper, she has one sister, M. Juliette Cargill currently residing in Sibley, Missouri. She is survived by her six children, Diane, Bill, Dennis, David, Winter, and Ron, step daughters Bobbie and Pamela, seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Always active in her church, she met her first husband (the father of her 6 children) at a baseball game where he played on her church's team. They lived in Detroit, Michigan for most of their married lives until his retirement in 1967 when they packed up four vehicles and moved the family to California. Ida Kate and Bill Johnson were married for 48 years when he passed away on February 7, 1989. In 1998 Ida Kate married Harold (Hal) Camp, a fellow member of her church choir and added his two daughters, Bobbie and Pamela, and their children and grandchildren, to her family.
Ida Kate's life always revolved around her family and her church. She loved music and was always a proud member of her church choir. When she married Hal she joined him in his Amvet activities. They also shared such a love of music that they looked around and found the Bellflower Civic Chorus. They participated in many shows, enjoying everything about the experience.
After Hal passed last year, after almost 14 years together, Ida Kate moved from Bellflower to The Breakers, a senior living facility in Long Beach. While at The Breakers she made many new friends. She was at home, at The Breakers, when her Lord called her to join him in his heavenly home.
