Howard Lee, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2015 in Anaheim, California.
He is survived by his siblings, Paul Lee of Orange, California, Violet Lim of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Louise Jung of Lawndale, California, and Lori and Fred Leong of Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Amongst the other survivors are dozens of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Lillie Hong and Rose Song.
He was born in Missouri, having been raised in the midst of nephews and nieces in St. Louis. There were plenty of stories of his "youthful misadventures" on Vandeventer Avenue. Owing to the exceptional influence of his sister Lillie, he was able to graduate high school and find direction. He honorably served this great country in the Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of Specialist Second Class. He then moved to Los Angeles to join his sister Rose, and he became a proud UCLA graduate.
Uncle Howard lived most of his adult life in Los Angeles, later moving to Rancho Palos Verdes and then Henderson, Nevada, before moving back to Southern California, where he had enjoyed a long career in engineering. At first, he worked at Hughes Aircraft, but he eventually moved over to Northrop. During this time, he was able to travel for business to many interesting places, such as Japan and Switzerland. After he retired from Northrop, we had a fun family celebration. He kept busy by visiting family, handicapping horseraces, taking trips, and volunteering as a math tutor for underprivileged kids.
Over the course of his lifetime, he had many friends and hobbies. He loved horseracing, and he collected artistic plates and coins. He loved sports of all kinds, especially football. During his Henderson years, he could be found nearly everyday chatting at the craps table or getting the latest information from the sports book staff at Sunset Station. Once, he had a giant roll at the Frontier dice table, and his noisy antics captured the attention of the whole casino. He recounted this story and tales of his military and work life with great fervor, and the details became ever more animated over time. His favorite teams included the Bruins, Dodgers, Lakers and the Rams.
A service to commemorate his life will take place on Friday January 30th at 3 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Chapel.
