Herbert M. Herold

September 17, 1930 — February 24, 2015

Herbert M. Herold, 84, longtime resident of Torrance, CA, passed away on February 24, 2015 at Long Beach Memorial with family members at his bedside after suffering an unexpected stroke. Herbert was born in Beverly Hills, CA, on September 17, 1930, of Albert Herold and Hedwig (Stinner).


Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Rosalpina Herold (Altamirano), his four children Lino (Lisa), Eric (Gabriele), Bryan (Andrea), and Rozenia Herold; brother Roland Herold. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Andrew, Chris, Stephanie, Daniel, Matthew, Isaiah, Brandon, Jessica, Emma, and Ethan; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 17 years, Josie Herold (Elizarra).


Born into a family of German immigrants, Herbert's mother passed away when he was just a toddler. Herbert, along with his younger brother, spent his kindergarten years in Germany with his aunt. He eventually moved back to live in Los Angeles with his father and stepmother Ann Marie.


Herbert graduated from Washington High School in 1949 and attended El Camino College. He worked as a roofer, aviation fabricator, and realtor. He also had a brief stint in the US Navy. Herbert became a savvy real estate investor and landlord, with rental properties throughout Southern California.


Herbert was a dedicated family man and supportive friend. He was full of energy and widely known as a conversation starter. He was an active 84 year old and always on the go. He enjoyed working on his properties, healthy living, dancing to his own beat, and fixing anything in need of repair.


His other hobbies included waterskiing, gymnastics, water aerobics, and matchmaking. He loved to talk about all things especially about family, history, politics, psychology, and business. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.


Visitation will be held March 4th at Green Hills Mortuary 3pm - 8pm with Rosary service at 6pm. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday March 5th at Green Hills Memorial Chapel & Park, 27501 S. Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. All friends are welcomed.
