Henry G. Torres

Henry Torres, 91, of Torrance, California passed away on June 13, 2012 at home with his wife by his side. Henry, a kind man, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. He was born on July 15, 1920 in Miami, Arizona, and due to the early loss of his mother, was raised by his paternal grandmother, along with his brother Jesse and sister Alice.

After working at General Motors as a welder for 26 years, Henry was successful in retirement. He enjoyed travelling, and his favorite destinations were casinos in Las Vegas, Laughlin, and San Diego. He especially enjoyed the penny slot machines, which he proudly financed with his hobby of collecting cans and plastic bottles for recycling. He was also an avid fisherman, and enjoyed the Redondo Beach pier and half day boats. Henry was also a talented craftsman who found great pleasure in designing and building personalized gifts for family and friends.

Henry will be greatly missed by all those who loved him. He is survived by his wife Edith, his daughter and her husband Helen and David Hanna, his granddaughter and her husband Stephanie and David Wilson, his great grandson Brandon Wilson, and two children from a previous marriage, Danny and Mercy. In addition to his immediate family, Henry is survived by loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Services will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach on Thursday June 21st at 10:00 AM. Henry will be laid to rest at Green Hills Cemetery under a small pine tree with beautiful views.

The love and kindness Henry provided to his family and friends will be cherished forever. Henry was blessed with 91 years of good health, and his family is grateful to all of those who prayed for him and cared for him during his final months of illness.
