Henry K. "Hank" Shinn, a resident of Gardena, CA, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in San Mateo, CA and attended San Mateo High School. During the early part of WW II, he and his family were relocated to Topaz, Relocation Center, UT. He later travelled to New York City where he attended art school and was employed by the Raymond Barger Studio drawing and painting industrial design renderings in oil, charcoal, and watercolors for use in publicity and advertising. In Oct. 1946 he volunteered to join the United States Army and served with the Hq. Troop, 1st Cav. Div., 5th Cav. Regiment where he worked as a public relations writer. After the Army he finished his art school studies and worked in various art jobs until he was hired as a graphic artist for Northrop Corp. where he worked for 37 years until his retirement in Oct. 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren taking them on bike rides. He was a talented artist with an optimistic outlook and a kind and generous nature who was dearly beloved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Grace T. Shinn, son Martin and wife Teresa, daughter Cindy and husband Stan, and grandchildren Emiko, Jennifer and husband Bill, and great-grandchild Julius. A Memorial Service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 on Tuesday, December 10th at 5pm to commemorate his life.
