Henrietta Anna Russell

Henrietta (Newman) Russell, 94, died in Valencia, California on October 8, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Paul Otis Russell. An only child, Henrietta was born in Los Angeles on December 29, 1916. Living most of her life in San Pedro, she had attended the old Fifth Street Elementary, Barton Hill Elementary, and in 1928 the new Richard Henry Dana Jr. High School then High School was the school on Gaffey Street between 12th and 13th. She took the red car from San Pedro to Willow Street in Compton to attend Compton Junior College. Her first job was in the office of the Waterfront Employers Assn. then the offices of Starkist Foods, N.S. Treasury Dept. then L.A.U.S.D. She retired from the L.A. Unified School District as a counselor's clerk of Rudicinda Supulveda Dodson Jr. High School, and after both retired Henrietta and Paul moved to Sun City, Ca. When Paul died, she moved to Lomita with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of San Pedro's 30 Year Club, a 50 year member and Post Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star; also a Post Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine in San Pedro. In Sun City she was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the United Church of Christ. Henrietta is survived by her beloved family; Roberta (Richard) Leet and Paula (Victor) Leet- Banuelos.
