Henrietta Daniel Amezcua (August 25, 1937 – July 12, 2024)
Henrietta Daniel Amezcua was born in Indio, CA on August 25, 1937 to parents Dolores Maldonado Daniel and Francisco Miranda Daniel. She spent the early part of her childhood in Coachella, CA, in a small home with her mom and sisters Mary Juarez and Irene Izquierdo. She attended Coachella Elementary School and, as an upper grader, worked part-time at a dry-cleaning business in downtown Coachella. When she was 13, her family settled in nearby Indio from which she took a school bus to Coachella Valley Union High School in Thermal, CA. She graduated in 1955 and started working for the local power utility.
Henrietta met her future husband of 62 years, Arthur Rosales Amezcua (Art) of Brawley, CA, in 1958 at a dinner party hosted by Art’s brother Richard Amezcua and sister-in-law Lily Amezcua. As Art was away in the army at the time, she and Art wrote one another until his discharge and return to Brawley a year and half later. They married on December 2, 1961 in a Catholic service at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Indio. They bought their first house in Brawley, CA a couple of years later.
In 1966, while expecting their first child Arthur Brent Amezcua, Henrietta and Art moved to Gardena in coastal southern California for Art’s new job at nearby Hughes Aircraft. A few years later their second son, Rod Mark Amezcua, was born. After a few years more spent raising their small children, Henrietta also began working at Hughes Aircraft. During the early years of careers and family life, Henrietta and Art moved the family first to Redondo Beach, CA, and then to Torrance, CA, where Henrietta and Art settled for close to the next 50 years. Henrietta continued to work at Hughes Aircraft as a programs control administrator before retiring in 1990.
During the late 70s and into the early 80s, Henrietta went back to college, taking courses at night. She excelled in college and was particularly fascinated by the subjects of anthropology and astronomy. In 1983 she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Pepperdine University. During this time Henrietta also explored a number of hobbies: sewing, swimming, drawing, tennis, crocheting, crafting, family genealogy, and antiquing.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her mother Dolores Daniel, her father Francisco Daniel, and her sister Irene Izquierdo, and is survived by her husband Arthur Amezcua, and their two sons Arthur Amezcua of Davis, CA, and Rod Amezcua of Frisco, TX; two daughters-in-law, Jill Crowley and Sally Amezcua; three grandchildren, Nina Amezcua, Sam Amezcua, and Nathan Amezcua; her sister Mary Juarez and brother-in-law Mike Juarez; and three nieces, Michele Feller, Mandy Nicholson, and Danett Izquierdo.
