Helen Friedman

Helen "Uma" Friedman, 87, of Rolling Hills Estates, CA, passed away on December 21, 2022. Helen was born on October 3, 1935 to Manfred and Alyce Simon in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Gardena High School, she went on to study History and Education at UCLA.

After graduation, she landed her first job as an elementary school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District and eventually went on to become a successful school Principal.

Helen and Lenny had one child, Elliot Friedman, whom they adored and traveled the world with. When Helen had Elliot, she decided to dedicate her life to being a loving and wonderful mother. Helen excelled at everything she did and supported her family through the many passions and challenges of their lives. Helen was a passionate UCLA basketball and football fan, art collector, and a great friend. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her garden tending to her rose bushes and plumerias or at the Hollywood Bowl, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Mark Taper Forum, or the Rose Bowl cheering on her Bruins. Helen adored visiting Hawaii annually and her last trip was in July 2022. We will miss her greatly.

Helen was predeceased by her husband Lenny. She is survived by her son Elliot and grandson Michael.
