Helen Burgeno

The family of Helen Burgeno, 91, is saddened to announce her passing. Born in Wilmington, CA and lived her entire life in the South Bay. Youngest and last surviving child of Louis and Micolina Bizego. A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend throughout her life. Married to the love of her life, Hank Burgeno, for more than 69 years until his passing in 2018.

Early on in life, via the examples set forth by her Italian immigrant parents, she learned that nothing is impossible with hard work and determination… this was her continuing message to us all. Never one to back down or second guess herself she led by example. She is survived by her four children: Elena (Dave), Rick (Deb), Margaret "Chach" (Barry) and Robert “Rob” as well as her seven grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen, Adam, Jess, Amanda, Domenica and Chad. Having dementia/Alzheimer's enter into her life, as it had her mother's, proved to be both sobering and heartbreaking to her loving family as bit by bit, experiences, memories, relationships and acquaintances became obscured, distorted and in some cases faded away. Always having been one to enthusiastically hold court with remembrances from her childhood, stories of her family and discussions of "good numbers" that were certain Keno winners, it was especially painful to see the advancement of the "Thief of the Mind".

Though we are all saddened by her passing, we are gladdened by her presence and heart in our lives. The matriarch of her family, Helen Burgeno, will be laid to rest Saturday, March 5, 2022 with her beloved Hank at Green Hills Cemetery, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Visitation: Friday, March 4, 2022 from 4:30-8:30pm and Memorial Services: Sat. March 5, 2022 at 11:30am - Green Hills Chapel.
