On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, Harold Russell Van Buren passed away at Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrance at the age of 91. Harold was born in Tremont, Illinois to John R. and Nannie B. Van Buren, the third child in the family of nine children.
After serving in the Navy during World War II, Harold married Agnes M. Morrison (deceased 2006) and they lived in Pekin, Illinois where their first two children were born. In 1955 Harold built a trailer with which to haul their household goods. That same year they used it to move to El Segundo, California. Their third child would be born there. Harold resided in his beloved El Segundo the remainder of his life. He worked as a machinist for Garrett AIResearch until retirement and was an active member of El Segundo First Baptist Church.
Harold is survived by his sister Mary M. Tillman, his three children Donald F. (Jan) Van Buren, Linda S. Van Buren (Bert Miermans), Diana L. (Sawarnjit) Singh, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Harold will be held at the Historic Church at Green Hills Memorial Park on Wednesday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. On Tuesday, November 20, there will be a viewing from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m in the Villetta Suite at Green Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in honor of Harold’s life and memory to Disabled Veterans of America, Wounded Warrior Project or Habitat for Humanity.
