January 16, 1922 — November 10, 2011

Dickerson, Harold Lee

Lee, as he was known to friends and family, was born in Clarksville, Arkansas on January 16, 1922 to John and Viola Dickerson. He passed away peacefully at home on November 10, 2011. Lee resided in Torrance, California since 1972, and served as president of his homeowners association. Raised in Arkansas, he graduated early from high school at age 17, and entered the Army Air Corps Cadet Program. Lee began his 21 year career in the Air Force as a bomber pilot, and trained in the B-29 and B-17 bomber program. In the mid-1950s, Lee was instrumental in the establishment of Zaragoza Air Force Base in Spain. Lee retired as a Major in 1963 as the Chief Procurement Officer at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Lee then accepted a position as a Contract Manager for Hughes Aircraft, and retired after a 21-year successful career. He then went on to serve as the Airport Commissioner at Torrance Municipal Airport, where he is still honored with a bronze plaque for his contributions. Lee is survived by his loving wife Ingrid (the 50 year love story between Lee and Ingrid was a human-interest story broadcast on national TV, written about in the Daily Breeze and the "Chicken Soup" book series, and shown on the TV show "Unbelievable" in Japan), son David, and daughter Lynne, and will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will begin Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM, and will resume on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 10:30 am, with a celebration of his life at 11:00 am at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, Rancho Palos Verdes.
