My beloved brother Greggie, of Rancho Palos Verdes, passed away on August 18, 2015. He was born on February 24, 1944 in Seattle WA, to the late Cdr. Robert W. Smith, USCG and M. Louise Pinto. He was the oldest of 2 children but was very, very special, having been brain injured at birth. He brought joy into all the lives that he touched-always smiling, quick to laugh and always eager to please. Gregg is survived by his sister, Sally and Sally's husband, John of Palos Verdes and his cousins, Lonna and Kerry Gregg lived an extraordinary life as a mentally handicapped child and adult, attending school in Massachusetts into his high school years and living in Rancho Palos Verdes with his parents while working at Goodwill Industries. He worked at Goodwill for over 30 years. He was eager to mainstream, to contribute to the working community and to earn a paycheck. This was primarily due to the guidance and assistance of Harbor Regional Center (HRC) and their devoted staff who followed Gregg's life and care shortly after the family moved to Palos Verdes in 1962. As Gregg became less mobile and more care was needed, he moved to Madrona Manor, a HRC facility where he was loved by the owner Pat, his caregivers (Jimmy and Victoria) and his friends and therapists (Beverly and Eddie). Of course, Sally and John were an integral part of his life, care and entertainment, bringing everyone into their home for all the holidays. The light that Gregg brought into our lives will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Sept 8 at 9 am at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, crypt-side in Pacifica. He will be laid to rest next to his devoted mom, Louise.
