Grant George Murray, a 30 year resident of Palos Verdes, died unexpectedly on July 24, 2011. Born to George and Hazel Murray at the Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto on July 2, 1943, Grant grew up in San Carlos, California. He joined the army in September of 1962 and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Upon his honorable discharge, he joined Western Airlines where he was employed for 20 years, eventually becoming vice president for the Los Angeles Region. His love of aviation brought him into many business endeavors which culminated in the development of MANI, an aviation services company at the Long Beach Airport with his business partner, Glenn Ray. He was a certified private pilot with both land and seaplane ratings. Besides aviation, his interests included playing the drums, listening to jazz music and spending time at his lake home in Minnesota. His family was the center of his life. Nothing surpassed his love of playing with his grandchildren. He is survived by Karen, his wife of 42 years; son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Dulce Murray; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda (Murray) and Korey Green, Erin (Murray) and Kevin Kochakji; four granddaughters, Carissa Murray, Savannah Green, Sierra Green and Madelyn Kochakji; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Jane Murray and nieces, Kimberly (Murray) Gifford, Jennie (Murray) Kostryukov and nephew, Matthew Murray. A memorial service will take place Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 am at Ascension Lutheran Church in Rancho Palos Verdes.
