On Thursday, February 23, 2023, Gonzalo Castillo, known to many of us as Le Gonz and El Guapo, loving husband, father of three, grandfather of six, brother, uncle, and friend to many more, passed away at age seventy-five. An avid gardener, Gonzalo studied in the seminary for several years before moving to the United States. He was a lover of music, who collected vinyl early in his life, and had an eclectic taste of music genres. Gonzalo welcomed everyone into his home, and they felt his warmth and love—whether they were seeking guidance in their lives, celebrating the little victories of life, or simply sharing his company while enjoying a cool-one in his backyard.
After a long day at work, he met the love of his life, Maria Isabel, in Los Angeles, CA. They bonded over a long bus ride home. A few months into a whirlwind romance, they soon married, and built a family with the births of their three daughters.
Gonzalo was best known for his quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit. He is survived by his wife, Isabel, their daughters, Vanessa, Melissa, and Kim, and six grandchildren, Sophia, Baran, Luke, Aaron, Gigi, and Eco. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the gardens of Green Hills.
