Gilbert T. Perez born April 30, 1933 passed away peacefully April 27, 2021 at the age of 87.
Gilbert graduated from San Pedro High School in 1951. Gilbert joined the United States Army in 1953, where he went on to serve as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, with a military occupational specialty of cook. While stationed at Fort Bragg North Carolina, Gilbert attained the rank of Staff Sergeant which he remained until his honorable discharge in 1956.
While serving in the Army, Gilbert married his home town sweetheart Norma Cantu, from San Pedro, California, which began a lifelong love affair of 67 years.
Upon leaving the U.S Army, he took up the trade of painter, becoming a proud member of the painters union. Eventually, he was hired by hte City of Los Angeles International Airport. He worked diligently at his job, rising to the rank of supervisor which he held until his retirement from the City of Los Angeles in 2009.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Norma M. Perez, sons David A. Perez, Allan A. Perez and daughters Elaine J. Perez, and Claudine and husband Jeff Merlo. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jacqueline Montano, Samuel Merlo, Shannon Merlo, Matthew Merlo, and great grandchild Kassidy Montano. Gilbert was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.
The Viewing will be held on Aug 9th at 4:30pm and the Funeral Ceremony on Aug 10th at 11:30am at the Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
