Geraldine Love

August 1, 1929 — May 7, 2020

Geraldine Ann Love was born on August 1, 1929 to Lillian Celoni and Fred Kessler. She spent her earliest years in the Hollywood Hills before moving to San Pedro as a young girl. After graduating from San Pedro High School in 1946, Geri took the street car to Los Angeles to attend LA City College before accepting a job with the ILWU benefits team as an executive secretary, witnessing the first health care benefits and groundbreaking contract with newly established Kaiser Permanente, which was being built in Harbor City. After her girls went off to college, she also worked at USC in the NASA research engineering department.

Geri married her husband, George Love in1955 and remained a lifelong resident of her beloved San Pedro. Adored by her parents, Lillian and Tivo Lomeli, daughters and son in laws, Jorja and Mike Mazzella and Laurie and Michael Wixted, she embraced a multigenerational family with all its joys and demands beautifully; her heart always overflowing with love. “Mimi” dearly loved by all her grandchildren, Phillip, Nicholas (Susan), Michael and Georgiana Mazzella along with Michael Scott, Ryan, Casey and Tierney Wixted. Babysitting them as young children, she continued her unconditional love and constant pride in all their accomplishments and passions throughout their lives.
She is also survived by stepsons, Marvin Love, George Love, Robert Love and grandchildren Michael, Monica, Kari, Kelly, Matt, Erin, Sean, Kim, George and Steven Love along with many great grandchildren; always remembering all the good times spent with all of them.
Geri’s creative spirit enjoyed many passions including needlepoint, bridge, baking (always a delicious cake on your birthday) and music, especially Jazz. Geri was a devoted fan of Lou Rawls, whose music inspired her for decades and she toured all over LA & beyond to support him and other up and coming jazz artists. She also enjoyed travel, exploring the United States with her husband George, daughters and grandchildren, European adventures, and yearly trips to NYC to spend time with her cousin June and hang out at Jazz spots till the early morning hours.

Many cherished life memories included her cousins, Billie Gogian, June Glazer and lifelong best friend, Columbia Bilich.
The Love family will always be grateful for the loving care she received in her later years from Techi, Ivy and longtime friend Mariam Martinez.

“Mom thank you for loving us all unconditionally and embodying grace and beauty every moment of your life. You will continue to inspire us forever.”

Family and friends of Geraldine are invited to share their favorite photos, video memories and heart felt messages on her Tribute page on the Green Hills Mortuary Website.
