George Francis Richards Jr.

In Memoriam George (Rich) Richards (1926-2021)

George was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Pacific Palisades. A proud Veteran, during World War II, he was a Navy Medic. A UCLA graduate and former football player, he was passionate, about the Bruins and previously was involved in the recruitment of players. George worked at Northrop/Grumman for more than 37 years until his retirement.

The last 65 years, he and his beloved wife, Virginia (Ginny) lived in their home in Palos Verdes. As his friend, Norma Jean, AKA Marilyn Monroe, wrote on their school picture, “Wow, what a guy!” However, the love of his life was his wife, Virginia. George was a dedicated husband and her caregiver for many years. He and Virginia were married for 72 years. The couple loved spending time at their place in Mammoth, where he especially enjoyed hiking and fishing. A member and a former President of the Palos Verdes Breakfast Club for over 40 years, he loved the comradery plus participated in the events and was famous for his acting ability which included an annual play, where he performed as a peacock. Additionally, both George and Virginia were passionate about politics and worked extremely hard on former President Ronald Reagan’s election campaign.

George died of natural causes and is survived by: His wife, Virginia; sons, Bart and Greg; daughter-in-law’s, Judith and Catherine; grandchildren, Roxie Konis, Cameron Richards, Scott Richards, Alissa Flanagan, Aimee Richards and Kailee Kerrigan; plus, great-grandchildren Alexis LaPorte, Bella Konis, Jax Konis plus MacKenna Flanagan and brother Eugene Richards. George will be remembered for his strong will, generosity, and love for his wife and family. He was loved by his family and friends and will truly be missed.
