George E. Reinhardt Jr.

April 25, 1929 — March 20, 2013

George Edward Reinhardt Jr. of Palos Verdes Estates California, age 83, passed away on March 20, 2013. He was born on April 29, 1929 to George Edward and Mae Ruffing Reinhardt in Paterson, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife Betty Ann, his sons Mark, George III and James, their wives Marion, Shawn and Marta and his grandchildren Leslie Reinhardt Duncan, daughter of Mark and Marion and George Edward Reinhardt IV, son of George and Shawn.
Mr. Reinhardt is a graduate of New York University and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. On November 22, 1952 he was married to Betty Ann Monahan at age 22, with whom he had his first son, Mark, three years later. He purchased their first family home in Oakland, New Jersey where they raised their family.
After working as Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Reinhardt joined Bergen Drug Company of Hackensack, New Jersey as treasurer and senior financial officer. In 1969, Bergen Drug merged with a larger west coast company Brunswig Drug. The newly combined public company, Bergen Brunswig Corporation, was headquartered initially in Century City California and then Orange California. In time, Mr. Reinhardt rose to become the company's treasurer and chief financial officer as well as a member of its board. The long term contributions of Mr. Reinhardt were a large part of how the company grew into a prosperous, multi-billion dollar enterprise.
In the early 1970's, Mr. Reinhardt moved his parents, wife and children to Palos Verdes Estates, California, where he became an avid sailor. He enjoyed spending hours on the ocean, sailing off his beloved Palos Verdes Peninsula or just bobbing dockside, gazing out at the horizon, tanned by the California sun. Though he enjoyed these leisurely, peaceful moments, work and family were always his first priorities and his diligence and continual success provided a loving and joyous home, and eventually, a cherished tradition of destination reunions for his family. His infinite support and generosity toward his loved ones has enabled each of them to realize their ambitions, leaving a legacy of achievement in his wake that will last generations.
