George "Chickie" Dillon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 21st, surrounded by his family. He was a 90 year native of San Pedro and was preceded in death by his lovely wife, "Vickie". Chickie and Vickie were married for 59 years. They hosted several family reunions, holiday dinners and super bowl Sundays. These traditions continued after Vickie's death in 2006. He was the last of 9 Dillon brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Frank, Bill, Bob and Sisters Vi (Johnson) Juanita (Rojo) Blanche (Connoley) and Edith (Cairns) and 2 nephews, Phil and Bill Dillon. He honorably served our nation and was a World War II veteran. He was a devout Catholic and a lifetime parishioner of Holy Trinity Church. He was an active member of the Longshoreman's Pensioners. In his youth he was an excellent baseball player and spent many years coaching the youth of San Pedro. It was not unusual to see him travel from San Pedro, Mary Star or Narbonne High Schools to witness a ball game. An avid sports fan he knew statistics dating back to the 1930s'. The most important qualities expressed by Chickie were his love of family and friends. He was noted for his cheerful smile, his generosity and thoughtfulness. He was a great role model and loyal American. His love of God and little children will never be forgotten. He will truly be missed by not only his family but also his many friends. He is survived by his sisters in law Betty, Margie, and four generations of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Chickie's life will be held on Wednesday, November 28TH At Green Hills Chapel with viewing from 5 to 9 and vigil at 7. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church on Thursday, November 29th at 10:00AM. Burial to follow at the Green Hills Mausoleum.
