Gail B. Wyatt

May 30, 1916 — February 27, 2012

Gail Boyd Wyatt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was born in Aurora, Colorado on May 30th, 1916 and passed away peacefully in his home on Feb. 27th 2012. He spent his first few years of life on the Wyatt Cattle Company Ranch in Colorado then the family moved to Los Angeles in 1920. Gail met his future wife Lorraine during high school and they were married in 1938. He then received his Bachelor of Science degree and his teaching credential from UCLA where he was a 3 year letterman in track. He taught physical education in the Los Angeles school district for 40 years ending his career at Los Angeles Community College. During that time he coached track, cross country, football and ended his coaching creer as the swimming and water polo coach at LACC. Gail, Lorraine and their now 3 kids moved to Manhattan Beach in 1950 where he resided for the last 61 years. Gail and Lorraine loved the ocean and raised their family around beach activities. They joined the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club in the 1950's and Gail started swimming classes where he taught many of Manhattan Beach kids to swim. Gail and Lorraine's love of the ocean brought them to Hawaii where the were fortunate enough to purchase a condo on Maui in the late 1970's. After Gail retired from teaching they would spend 3 months each year enjoying Maui's warm ocean waters. Their house in Manhattan was the center of activity for their expanding extended family. Many of their grandchildren and great grandchildren spent countless hours at grandpas enjoying "his" beach and "his" ocean. There door was always open and you could just walk in, night or day, and they would great you with a smile and a cold coke. Gail was proceeded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lorraine and his daughter Dale Massey. He is survived by his daughter Donna Gibbs, son Kent Wyatt, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all. There will be a grave site service at Green Hills Memorial Park on Western Ave. in Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday, March 3rd at 2:00.
