Fred Plebanek

February 26, 1932 — November 24, 2021

Fred Plebanek, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep while in home hospice on November 24, 2021 in Tucson, AZ after a brave 25 month battle with a rare form of cancer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Evergreen Mortuary in Tucson, AZ.

Fred's final resting place is at Green Hills Memorial Park at 27501 S. Western Ave.,.Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 (310) 83l-0311. His Service will be at the Green Hills Chapel 2:00pm PST Saturday January 15, 2022, and a Graveside Service with Honor Guard at 3:00pm. The Service will be live streamed. Fred Plebanek was born February 26,1932 in Granite City, IL as the 5th of 6 children to Frank and Grace (Nemeth) Plebanek. Both Parents emigrated from Eastern Europe as little children around 1905. Frank from (Bohemia) Austria and Grace from Budapest, Hungary. In the middle of the Great Depression, Fred was raised in Granite City with moves to Baltimore and Junction City, Kansas before his mother moved to Los Angeles, CA in the late 1940's where he met the love of his life, Ruth (Ryberg) at John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles. After Graduation, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served about 4 years in the Pacific during the Korean War completing his service with an Honorable Discharge in May 1954.

During his Naval service, he married his high school sweetheart Ruth Ryberg on August 17, 1951, and 10 months later, their daughter Cynthia Denise was born in 1952. The family lived in Los Angeles where Fred began his career as an electronics Technician with Garrett AiResearch, first near LAX and then to a new Plant in Torrance CA. In August 1958, their son Brian Matthew was born, and the family moved into their new home in Torrance in August 1959 where they lived and attended Faith Morningside Lutheran Church until 1970 and then Ascension Lutheran Church in Torrance.

During Fred's 38 years working at AirReseach, he progressed to being the Electronics Lab Supervisor and in 1984 was offered an opportunity to set up a new lab in the growing community of North Tucson. Fred and Ruth made the move and became members of Ascension Lutheran Church in Tucson where he served in many roles including the Church Council and Elder. Both Fred and Ruth have maintained their strong faith and close relationship with God knowing Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Fred and Ruth Celebrated 70 years of marriage in August 2021 and leaves behind the love of his life Ruth; Daughter Cyndi Craig (David); Son Brian Plebanek (Gail) as well as 2 Granddaughters; Holly Buckholtz (Brandon) and Whitney Frogge (Roy) as well as 3 Great-Grandchildren; Brielle and Brycen Buckholtz and Zechariah Frogge. In addition, there are many nephews, nieces, cousins, Great and Great-Great Nephews and Nieces on both sides of the family.

In lieu of flowers, our Family has requested that a donation be made to The American Cancer Society.
