Frank Scognamillo, our beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, died Friday, May 12, 2017 at the age of 53 at his home in San Pedro, California—changing our world forever.
Frankie grew up in San Pedro, surrounded by family, friends and the ocean he loved so much. There were many wild and joyous rides to the beach in his mom's VW Squareback. He worked alongside his dad at Sunrise Marine, a business his father established in 1987. He also lived many years in Long Beach, raising his daughter Hailey and teaching her to swim in their pool, where they spent many happy hours enjoying the sun and each other's company.
He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, as a person of few words, a doer of good deeds and a man whose feelings ran deep and were expressed through his dedicated involvement in his daughter's life—volunteering for her school and her girl scout troupe. We will also remember him through his creative work that included wood sculpture, drawing and garden designs that featured cactus, tropical plants and water features.
He had a special connection with and found comfort in nature in all its forms, which was the inspiration for many of his creative projects. He spent most of his life outdoors—digging for fossils, building his garden, surfing at the beach, working on his motorcycles and cars, deep sea fishing and hunting for antiques.
Frankie was loved by many and is leaving behind his parents Frank and Barbara Scognamillo, sister Christine Scognamillo, brother Guy (Gaetano), daughters Hailey Scognamillo and Jessica Judge, three grandchildren and many uncles, aunts, cousins, loyal friends and Gaby the cat.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 10:30am at Holy Trinity Catholic church in San Pedro, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity school.
As Frankie would have said as he left the house on his way to the beach, "Goin', surfs up!"
