Francis L Nau ("Frank") died peaceably in his sleep on December 12th , 2020 at his home in Roseville, California. He was born in 1924 and grew up in Illinois. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served during WW II from 1943 to 1946. In July 1947, Frank returned to military service in the Air Force of the US and was honorably discharged in July 1950. During his time in the service he learned all things "Airplane".
He graduated from the Aeronautical University in September 1949. After the service he became employed by North American Aviation in Columbus, Ohio, which then became Rockwell, and later Boeing. During his employment with these companies he developed the first jet (The Vigilante) to have super sonic and stealth capabilities. Frank's original prints along with The Vigilante can be seen at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater, California.
In addition to his love of airplanes, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his main hobby of building miniature railroad layouts. Frank is predeceased by his parents Harriet and Phillip Nau and his first wife Mary Margaret Nau. Left to mourn his passing are wife Samantha Nau of Roseville, CA, stepsons Charles and Brandon and stepdaughter Ashlyn.
Graveside services for Frank will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park,
Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca on January 6th, 2021 at 12 noon.
