Frances Demeules 95, of Torrance passed away peacefully on March 31, 2019. She is survived by her husband of 72 years Joseph E. Demeules; her 3 children Kristin, Brian and Jina; and 24 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Frances will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but most of all her husband Joe.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 10th, at 11:30 am at Green Hills Memorial Park Chapel, 27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9th from 4-8 pm at Green Hills Mortuary.
Frances was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Luciano and Lucia Russo, both first generation immigrants from Sicily, Italy. She married Joseph E. Demeules on August 31, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa. While Joe was in the military, Frances made a home for him at all of his Air Force postings in several locations throughout the US.
Frances and Joe moved to Torrance in 1953 where Frances was an active member in the community. She served on the election board for all elections and served in various positions with each of her kid's schools. Frances and Joe joined a square dance beginners class in 1957 and became avid square dancers. As usual, Frances and Joe never hesitated to take on leadership roles in their club, the Honeycombers, and later with the Associated Square Dancers, and served on the National Square Dance Association Education Committee for the 1988 National Convention in Anaheim. Frances encouraged all of her kids to square dance, and at one time there were 4 active generations of square dancers including a grandson who became a caller.
Frances was also involved with the Torrance Woman's Club and with the Torrance Red Hats, later known as the South Bay Babes. She had a large community of friends locally and throughout the country. She was well known as someone who could be depended on, with a smile and a helping hand when necessary. She presented all with a joyous face, a cookie to go with the milk or coffee and a party to celebrate special occasions. She enjoyed life and celebrated to the fullest with her family and friends. She spent her last years learning about baseball and enjoyed tracking the Angels baseball team including trades and player stats. Who would have 'thunk' that she would become a baseball fan??
We love you and will miss you, from all you family and friends.
