Florence's life journey began in Oakland, CA on February 12th, 1921 as the firstborn child and only daughter of Joseph and Blanche Rugland. The family later moved to Southern California to resettle in the Los Angeles Harbor area. Growing up in the town of Wilmington, she attended Banning High School where she excelled as an honors student and class leader. Also while at Banning, Florence met her husband-to-be, Robert Torp. The two were married on December 26th, 1943. During the WW II years as Robert served in Europe as a sergeant in The United States Army, Florence remained in Wilmington and worked for the Los Angeles Harbor Department. In 1950, Florence and Bob moved to San Pedro, CA and welcomed a son, Jon, born on May 30th, 1951.
As a devoted wife and mother, Florence spent many years being active in her neighborhood and community through her involvement in PTA, Cub Scouts and through supporting her husband's affiliation with the San Pedro Masonic Lodge.
As a lifelong Christian, Florence developed a genuine interest in reading and studying the Bible. This fueled her desire for a deeper understanding of God's Word. She subsequently enrolled in and completed a formal course of study offered through the Berean Bible Institute and continued to read the Bible daily well into her later years.
Florence completed her life journey on February 26th, having reached the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert and her brother Warren. She is survived by her son, Jon Torp, daughter-in-law, Aleen J. Torp, granddaughter, Kristen Torp, all of San Pedro, niece, Beverly Patten of Temecula, CA and sister-in-law Rosanna Rugland of Lomopc, CA.
