Florence Jane Mctaggart

February 24, 1933 — December 12, 2022

Florence Jane McTaggart passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 89 years old, December 12th, 2022 surrounded by her surviving children Michael McTaggart, Jean McTaggart, Stephanie Killilea, and Clarke McTaggart. Also present was her grandson Douglas Goosey McTaggart and Cata Cruz. She is also survived by her daughter in law, Robin McTaggart, married to Michael with 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, son in law, Terrance Killilea, and grandchildren, Sean and Erin, daughter in law, Lynn McTaggart, married to Douglas, and her great grandchildren Nora and Emily McTaggart.

Florence was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 24th, 1933. She met her husband John C. McTaggart “Mr. RPV” in Washington High School in California. They married in 1952. They moved to Rancho Palos Verdes in 1963 where she has presided in the same home for over 59 years raising four children.

She was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church since 1963 where she devoted her life to many ministries such as Pastoral Council, Eucharistic Minister, Baptismal Ministry, and Bereavement Ministry. As she was heard many times saying, “We see them brought into this world and sent them out on their way.” She was also active in Guild Member in Divine Mercy, Families of Nazareth, Marian Ministry like Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of Fatima Feast Day celebrations, Life Teen Youth Ministry, Confirmation Ministry and Confirmation weekend retreats, and Christ Renews His Parish.

In the early years, you could see her at Vons passing out food samples in the store aisle. She was a yard duty at Vista Grande Elementary School as well as PTA president. She worked for Easter Seals. She loved working for Hawthorne Senior Center as Activity Director for 17 years, and Belmont Village Senior Living in RPV.

She supported her husband John C. McTaggart in all his city council work and mayoral elections through their marriage together. You could say they were a power couple of RPV in their day. Our dad's power was taking power naps between his job and the city work he loved so much. And our mom's power was wherever she went, whatever she was doing, she made things happen while having fun.

She was a devoted mother to her family and loved her friends. No one was a stranger to our mom. She loved to dance to the Polka and sing a tune during housework. She was a great cook and made all our holidays special. She dressed up and entertained folks in town as Charlie Chaplin.

Renowned for her love of the Kazoos, Flo passed out Kazoos to everyone with the saying on them “Go with the Flo”. She would always make sure she said “Be Good” to her grandchildren at the end of every visit which has been a lasting memory they will have forever.

She taught her children and grandchildren the importance of community, spiritual growth, and laughter was the best medicine. She will be missed but not forgotten. So if you have one of her signature Kazoos, dust it off and play a tune. Also, she would love everyone when you think of her in “Go with the Flo”.
