Dr. Fe Joson Cacdac, 84, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, in Torrance, California, with family members at her bedside.
The daughter of Tirso and Emiliana Joson, Fe was born in Quezon City, Philippines, and emigrated to the United States after earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University in Santo Tomas in Manila in 1962. She specialized in Internal Medicine following her medical residency training in New York City, where she met and married Manuel (Manny) Arce Cacdac. They were married for 49 years until his death in November, 2014, following a long battle with cancer.
Fe is survived by one daughter and two sons, Michele Cacdac Jones of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, Manuel (Chance) Cacdac Jr. of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Marcel Cacdac of San Francisco, CA; their spouses, Patrick, Laura and Stephanie; and four grandchildren, Julian, Savanna, Charley and Teya.
Terre Haute, Indiana, was home for the Cacdacs from the mid-1970s until 2014, when Fe and Manny moved to Citrus Hills, Florida. Fe had recently moved to Palos Verdes Estates, California, to live with daughter Michele and family.
Fe was deeply committed to her family and her faith, and to serving the needy, which included contributing time and resources with the Gawad Kalinga organization focused on community-building in the Philippines, as well as being a key member of annual surgical missions to the Philippines that Manny organized with the Society of Philippine Surgeons of America (SPSA) over 20 years. Fe also played an integral role in supporting Manny as he founded and established the Hydrocephalus Foundation of the Philippines, dedicated to improving the lives of babies born with hydrocephalus (also known as "water on the brain").
Fe loved music (especially by Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and other crooners), singing and playing competitive Scrabble - and in her more active days, she enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and fishing. Her adventurous spirit even prompted her to go skydiving and parasailing!
Those who knew Fe will always remember her stylishness, sharp mind and wit, generosity and loving heart. She lived a full and productive life and will be missed by many.
UPDATE: Due to recently announced COVID-19 restrictions in California, Fe's memorial service will be a private event, rescheduled to FRIDAY, JULY 24, 2020 at 1:00 pm PDT/ 3:00 pm CDT/ 4:00 pm EDT. Contact Michele at
