Evelia Lara

November 20, 1933 — October 9, 2018

Evelia Lara, the daughter of Jesus and Maximina Flores, passed away on October 9, 2018 at the age of 84 after an eighteen year battle with Breast Cancer. She was born on November 20, 1933 in Zacatecas, Mexico. She immigrated to Wilmington, Ca in 1948 with her parents and siblings. She graduated from Banning High School in 1953 and then attended Harbor College. Married in 1961 to Gilbert Lara. Evelia was an active member of the Toberman Neighborhood Center and the Federated Auxiliary #8 of the ILWU. She enjoyed her many travels, including various parts of Europe including Israel, Spain, England, Ireland and France. Evelia also worked for 27 years with LAUSD as a Teacher’s Aide.

She was preceded in death by her Husband Gilbert Lara in 2012, parents and brothers Salvador Flores, Guadalupe Flores, Jose de Jesus Flores and sisters Mercedes Hinojosa and Manuelita Flores. Evelia is survived by her son, Emery (Diana) Lara; Siblings Cita Flores, Javier Flores, Josefina Berumen and Martha Perez, step-granddaughter, Anissa Patrick) Giron and great-granddaughters, Mariah (Eric Evanoski), Miranda and Mariana Giron and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday October 16th, 2018 11:30 AM at Green Hills Mortuary.
