Eva Saperstein, loving wife, mother of three, grandmother of five, dedicated arts enthusiast and retired secretary – went Home on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. She is survived by her son, Barry Saperstein, her daughter Carol Hernandez, her grandchildren, Richard Hernandez, Christina Hernandez, Dominique Hernandez, Joseph Saperstein, and Adam Saperstein, her sister in Florida, Maria Valiante, her son-in-law Antony Hernandez, and her daughter-in-law Nicole Saperstein, who all were blessed to share one last Christmas with her, and one more chorus of “New York, New York” before her passing.
Eva was born July 21, 1928 in Tampa, Florida, and moved to New York City soon after, living through the Great Depression on the Upper West Side. Eva attended high school at Washington Irving High School in New York City. Eva met her husband of 40 years on a blind date at the Central Park Zoo, and she married Roy Saperstein on April 1, 1951. In 1964, with three children in tow, the Saperstein family moved to Redondo Beach, California. After several moves, the family moved to Harbor City, California, where they lived for 46 years. In 2017, Eva moved to Temecula, California to be near her children and grandchildren.
Eva is now reunited in Heaven with her husband Roy, her sister Chuni, and her daughter, Debbie. Eva, Nana, “Little Lady”, will be missed greatly as her big personality overshadowed her 4’10” body. She was a beautiful woman with a generous soul and a joyful heart. She loved to sing and dance. Although she never got the lyrics right, her audience, made up of family and friends, always enjoyed her improvisational rhymes.
