Our mother Esther J. Ayala lost her battle with cancer November 23, 2013, a day after her 89th birthday. She was born in Roswell, New Mexico and was one of 15 children born to Jose Otto Armijo and Rebecca Saiz. During World War II she worked at the Army base in Roswell as Rosie the Riveter. She married Raymond Ayala in 1946 and in 1950, moved to California with two small children (Robert and Christine). They purchased their new home in Wilmington and had 3 more children (Mary Ann, Michael and Raymond Gregory). Mom enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She was especially proud of her German chocolate cake she would bake every Christmas. She was a wonderful caring and loving mother. Mom sewed, crochet and quilted blankets for her 12 grandchildren. She and dad always enjoyed dancing. In later years mom would even shuffle a few steps while using her walker. Her weekly senior club meeting, activities with friends, shopping for bargains and having lunch with her special friend Sophia brought her special joy. Our parents walked through life together, their faith sustained them and it was always the cornerstone of their family life. She will be missed by her children, grandchildren and friends. May she rest in peace. Visitation will be held Friday November 29, 6-8pm @ Green Hills Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday November 30, @ 11:30am, St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wilmington with interment immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Cancer Society.
