Esperanza Fernandez Barretto

Esperanza “Ching” Fernandez Barretto, 94 years old, of Carson, California, passed away at 11:45 am, Thursday, June 23, 2022, at her residence. She was born July 17, 1927, in San Narciso, Zambales Philippines to Pascual and Lauretta Fernandez.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education at Philippine Women’s University. After graduating, she taught English Language at St Columban’s College in Olongapo City, Zambales Philippines. After six years of teaching, she assisted in managing few family businesses in Construction, Soda Fountain, Tailoring & Haberdashery, and a Fish Pen. She also engaged in buying and selling of imported decorative items and jewelries on her own.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Architect Augusto Valdes Barretto, who was her high school sweetheart and married with for over 40 years and by her daughter, Maria Esperanza (Mariza aka Duday).

She is survived by her six (6) children, Marilu “Lu”, Augusto “Totie”, Marites “Te”, Federico “Freddie”, Maria Carmen “Marichu”, and Reynaldo “Rey”, and by her son-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, July 18, 2022 at St Philomena Catholic Church in Carson, Ca and interment to follow right after the mass at Green Hills Cemetery, 27501 S. Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
