Ernesto Manuel Lima

Ernesto M. Lima of Torrance, California died on May 15, 2012. He was a loving father, devoted husband and a good man with a generous heart.
He was born in Quito, Ecuador where he attended El Collegio de Simon de Agronomia and received a degree in Agriculture and Farming.
In the early 1960's on a visit to New York City, he fell in love with our freedoms and opportunities. His passion for this country drove him to immigrate here, teach himself the English language, achieve U.S. citizenship and aspire to the American dream. While pursuing his dream, he met and married his wife Marie Louise Hermans who died in 1993.
In 1968, he proudly served in the United States Army and earned the rank of Sergeant at Fort Ord, California.
Upon honorable discharge from the Army in 1971, he settled in the Los Angeles area. He studied at Los Angeles Trade Tech college and received a degree in Metallurgy. He became a supervisor in the Heat Treat Department of Smith Tool International in Irvine, California where he worked for over twenty years before taking early retirement in 1992.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Don Bussey of New York, his siblings Guillermo Lima (Catalina) and Amalia (Marcello) of Quito, Ecuador, his sister-in-law Viviane Devillers of Belgium (Jose) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He also leaves his special friend, Gail Waller, who contributed to his happiness in his later years.
A memorial service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 9 a.m. with burial service to follow.
