E. Lynn McDowell passed away peacefully, with his loving and well-loved family by his side, Friday, May 4th, at home in Hawthorne, California.
Lynn Ernest was born December 11, 1926 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to Irving and Anna Loretta (Povey) McDowell of the Sault. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Wright), also of the Sault and his High School sweetheart. They married June 11, 1946 and their devotion to each other endured 66 years.
Lynn is survived by is sons Michael Lynn, (Terri), of Long Beach, CA, David Patrick, of Hawthorne CA, and Mark Oluf of Oregon. Grandchildren are Bart (Veruska), of Long Beach, CA, Michael of Hawthorne, CA, Katie and Quinn of Oregon, and very special great grandchildren, Maya, of Long Beach, Kendyll and Brady of Oregon and sister-in-law, Lena (Stabile) McDowell of Rochester Hills, MI.
Many nieces and nephews; Joseph (Debbie) Lenhart of Maryland, Lauretta (Donald) Bell, of the Sault, BethAnn (Mike) Schwemmin of Marquette MI, Randy (Thomas) Krause of Barbeau Mi, Jane Dunaway of Gaylord MI, Dale (Aleece) Dean and Judy Duchateau of Green Bay WI, James Dean of Las Vegas NV, Eric (Todd) Dean of Iowa, Cheryl Clemmens, Lynette (Rob) Weller, Dianne Harmon of Oakland County MI, Shauna (Jerry) Dotson of Traverse City, Marietta (Dave) Peterson of Spring Harbor MI, and Timothy Thompson of MI.
He is predeceased by their daughter Kathleen Ann (McDowell) Sutcliff, and grandson Jonah Sutcliffe, brohters, Harvard Irving, David Baker, and sister Caroline (McDowell) Lenhart, brother-in-law Joseph Lenhart, sister-in-law Lois Dunaway, and nephew Malcolm (Mac McDowell) Dunaway.
He graduated from Sault High School in 1945, where he had enjoyed participating in sports, especially football. Summers, he found work on a fishing boat in Brimley, or with his father at the Studebaker garage.
He moved his family to California in 1955, where he was employed as a design technician for Hughes Air. He was gifted at the processe and scheduling required for building aircraft. Lynn was a lifelong sports fan, and supporter of any team from the Sault, or Michigan. He especially loved the Redwings.
Always kind, thoughtful, and gracious to everyone he met, loving to friends and family he leaves behind a family and many friends that will deeply miss him.
Services will take place Saturday, May 12th at 3:00 pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca. 90275.
